Lady Sailfish Come Together for Solid Sweep of Henderson State

DAVIE, Fla.- Make it two in a row for the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team as they once again swept through their opponent at the 4th annual Sharks Classic as the Sailfish defeated Henderson State University by a final score of 3-0 to improve to 2-1 at the tournament and 3-2 overall.

Challenged through out the match by the Lady Reddies of HSU, the Fish tallied a close 28-26 game one victory and then followed that up with more comfortable back-to-back 25-19 victories in games two and three respectively.

PBA utilized a strong hitting attack led once again by senior Jennifer Eldridge as she paced the Fish hitting attack with a match-high of 17 kills. Eldridge continued her all-around good play as she tallied five digs in the winning cause. Overall the Fish connected for a .250 hitting percentage, their top effort of the 2009 season thus far.

Following behind Eldridge’s standout performance was juniors Liz Fugate and Kristin Carroll as the two upper-classmen registered 12 and eight kills respectively. Leading the defensive charge were emerging stars Jessica Way and Heather Shulke with each player collecting nine digs. Way led the way from the setter position as well with 34 assists.

For the Lady Reddies, whose mascot is considered a spirit, they were led by Brazil-native Tatiana Kuhn who tied Eldridge for match-high honors with 17 total kills although she also was charged with nine hitting errors. Tagata Fo’a and Stephanie Batcheldor split the setting duties with Fo’a registering 17 assists and Batcheldor notching 15 assists.

The Sailfish will wrap up their play at the NSU Classic later today as they take on Winona State University at approximately 3 p.m. The match will be aired live on the Sailfish Sports Network.
