Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Taking on yet another tough opponent, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team was unable to reverse their recent woes as Eckerd College entered the Rubin Arena and came away with a 3-0 victory at the hands of the Fish. Eckerd improves its season record to 10-4 while the loss for PBA lands their season record to 4-7.
Once again mixing in a variety of lineups, the PBA offense showed improved play near the net however the strong outside-hitters for the Tritons kept the Fish on the losing end.
EC took game one by a score of 25-18 and produced similar results of 25-15 and 25-20 in the final two sets of the three game sweep.
PBA senior Brittany Erickson connected for nine kills to lead the Sailfish attack while hitting at an impressive .333 hitting percentage. Sophomore Liz Fugate chipped in five kills to finish second on the squad for the evening.
Senior Emily Ryerson continued her solid efforts from the setting position as she collected a team-high 16 assists with Erickson leading the defensive effort from the back-row with 12 digs and also leading the Fish with six total blocks.
The Tritons were led by the big plays of their front line. Lydee Benoit, a Palm Beach Gardens native, delivered 11 kills with only one hitting error while Brazilian Regi Silva also added in 11 kills. EC setter Bri Smith did a majority of the setting for the visiting Tritons as she led all players with 27 assists.
Utilizing a big jump and even bigger serve, Silva dominated with her serve from the back line as she finished the three-set match with seven aces.
PBA will look to get back on track in their next scheduled match as they will take on St. Thomas University on Wednesday, September 24th at 7 pm. The Sailfish will travel to Miami Gardens for the match where they will put their undefeated season record against STU (2-0) on the line as they look to break away from their recent struggles.
