Box Score WINTER SPRINGS, Fla.- Playing matches on consecutive nights, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team once again played a tight and competitive match, this time against Rollins College on the road. While their efforts were strong, the Sailfish would fall to the Tars in three games on Saturday afternoon.
Much like their match on Friday night versus Lynn University, the Sailfish put together two solid performances games one and two while narrowly coming out on the losing end. RC took the opener 25-23 while needing extra time at 26-24 to overtake the Fish. The Tars closed out the sweep with a 25-18 victory in game three to take the match by a 3-0 sweep.
Sophomore Liz Fugate led the charge for PBA with a team-high 11 kills although the 6’2” PBA middle-blocker also registered eight hitting errors.
Freshman Allie Warren was next in line for the Fish from a hitting perspective as the Stuart, Florida native notched eight kills on the night for PBA. Setter Emily Ryerson, playing in her hometown, nearly totaled a triple-double on the night as she finished the contest with 28 assists, 11 digs, and seven kills while hitting at an impressive .455 clip.
Leading the defensive effort for PBA was junior Jennifer Eldridge who collected 15 digs in the back row.
Nikki Hartman led all players with 16 kills as she led Rollins to the victory. Phoebe Corder gave the Tars a solid defensive leader as she registered an impressive 23 digs, keeping many of the Sailfish attack attempts from going down as kills.
The victory pushes Rollins season record to 17-15 while PBA drops to 11-18 on the season. The Sailfish return to the court next Wednesday for their final regular season contest of the 2008 season. It will be Senior Night for PBA’s four seniors: Emily Ryerson, Brittany Erickson, Beth DeMund, and Chrissy Gulden. The Fish will battle Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 5 pm in the Rubin Arena.
