PBA Volleyball Puts Forth Strong Fight But Tars Too Strong

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- While the game’s momentum certainly found them at times during their volleyball match against Rollins College on Tuesday evening, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team was unable to overcome a balanced Tars attack as they were defeated by RC by a final tally of 3-1.

With both teams producing their fair share of runs, the two squads split the opening games as RC came out with a 25-22 victory in game one followed by a dominating performance by PBA in game two the tune of a 25-13 beating.

Forcing their way back into the match, Rollins stormed back for consecutive wins in game three and four, both of which were very tight. The Tars prevailed however with a 25-21 in game three and an even closer 27-25 game four score for the victory.

PBA witnessed a vintage performance from senior Brittany Erickson as the La Mesa, California native appeared unstoppable at times on Tuesday evening as she led all players with 19 kills. Producing just five hitting errors on the night, Erickson led the Fish with a .378 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Kristin Carroll, a Billings Senior High School product in Billings, Montana, also reached double-digits in kills for PBA with 10 while fellow sophomore Liz Fugate came through a solid outing with eight kills. Freshman Allie Warren finished with seven kills and just one hitting error.

Emily Ryerson led the setting efforts for PBA as the 5’9” senior collected 39 assists in the four game match. Defensively, the Fish witnessed solid performances from a number of back row players including freshman Meaghan Barber and junior Jennifer Eldridge who posted dig totals of 13 and 12 respectively.

The Tars put pressure on the Fish all night long including a trio of big hitters who kept the Tars on their winning ways as they won their 15th match of the season opposed to eight losses.

Caitlin Vyborny and Stephanie Nichols tied for the team lead with 13 kills each followed closely behind with Nikki Hartman with 12 kills. Erin Wareham was the setter of choice for RC head coach Sindee Snow as she registered 32 assists in total.

Libero specialist Phoebe Corder seemed to be at the right place at the right time all night long as she led the Tars defensive effort with 21 digs followed by Hartman’s 15 digs.

Dropping to 8-10 on the season, PBA returns to action on Friday, October 10th as they will play host to rival Nova Southeastern University with a 7 pm match slated for the Rubin Arena.
