Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- With the regular season starting to wind down, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team still has plenty to look forward to. However, on Saturday the Fish came away disappointed as they dropped a tough 3-1 decision to the hands of Flagler College in an afternoon volleyball bout.
Having now played on another three times over the past month, both PBA and Flagler are certainly used to each other’s style of play. Flagler now owns a 2-1 match lead on PBA after the Saints victory on Saturday. They took the match in four sets, winning 25-9 in the opener before having the tables turned when PBA stormed out for a 25-15 game two win.
Desperately needing a victory, Flagler (19-14) came through as it claimed the match victory with 25-17 and 25-22 victories respectively in games three and four.
The Sailfish used a very balanced attack with two players putting down nine kills and two more with eight kills. Senior Brittany Erickson and sophomore Kristin Carroll led the Fish with nine kills each while Liz Fugate and freshman Allie Warren each added in eight kills.
Erickson produced a very solid .467 hitting percentage by collecting her nine kills against just two hitting errors and only 15 total attacks. The La Mesa, California native played through much of the mach with a nagging ankle injury that limited her chances.
Carroll produced a double-double on the night as she produced 14 digs while PBA junior libero Jennifer Eldridge led all players with 17 digs. Senior Emily Ryerson came through with a solid outing once again as she produced 35 assists.
Now 10-16 on the season, PBA will be back in action next week as they host a pair of home dates. They will take on Northwood University at 7 pm on Wednesday, October 29th followed up by a 7 pm date with Lynn University on Friday, October 31st.
