Box Score

West Palm Beach, Fla.- In a battle of 10 win teams, the Rollins College Tars came out on top in a back-and-forth five game volleyball match against the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s squad on Tuesday night at Rubin Arena.

After dropping game number one 30-26, the Sailfish regrouped and took game two by a score of 30-16 as the momentum appeared to greatly shift into the hands of the blue and white. However, the Tars would fight back and take game three 30-25 before falling in game number four by a score of 36-34 in a set fans won’t forget anytime soon.

Entering into the fifth and decisive game, both teams would put together a string of consecutive points as well as both head coaches using both timeouts, however the Tars would come out on top on this night with a 16-14 game victory and 3-2 match win to take home to Winter Park.

Leading the way on the Sailfish side were three outside-hitters with double-digit kills. Senior Bia Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led the PBA attack with 20 kills followed closely by Brittany Erickson (La Mesa, Calif.) with 19 kills and Ali Mitchell (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach HS) with 16 kills.

Emily Ryerson, Palm Beach Atlantic’s junior setter and native of Winter Springs, Florida, contributed 55 set assists in the victory while being tagged with only four setting errors. Sophomore libero Jennifer Eldridge (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer HS) added 21 digs on the defensive side for PBA with Santos chipping in 24 digs to lead the Fish. Erickson totaled 20 digs in the balanced defensive effort for the Fish.

Rollins was led by three double-digit kills performers themselves with Lorena Orlandini registering a team-high 21 kills followed by Stephanie Nichols and Christina Reinders with 15 and 14 kills respectively. Setter Lacey Malarky recorded an astonishing 68 assists as she fed the Tar’s attackers all night long on the road to the hard fought victory for RC.

With the defeat, PBA drops to 10-9 as their roller-coaster season continues while Rollins improves to 11-6.

PBA returns to the court on Thursday, September 27th when they travel to Saint Leo University to take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m.
