ORLANDO, Fla. - The regular season came and it left, with conference tournament play this weekend, the Sunshine State Conference unveiled its lists for 1st team, 2nd team, Coach of the Year and Freshman of the Year award winners.
The Sailfish dominated the nominations as they locked up two spots in the first-team category, four in the second-team category, one of the two nominations for Co-Coach of the Year along with one of the two nominations for Co-Freshman of the Year.
Angela Goggin and
Katie Galligan took home first-team honors, representing the Sailfish at the highest level of competition.
The duo were paired for 27Â games this season, going 17-10 on the year. with their record in the top flight being a strong 11-6.
The Sailfish locked in four second-team honors as
Maggie Cox,
Zoye Caroline,
Cameron Ring, and
Sydney Corbett all made it to the list.
Cox delivered a strong 18-10 record overall with her delivering a dominating 14-6 record in the fourth flight. Cox strongest pairing of the season were with fellow all-conference member
Zoye Caroline as the duo went 14-8 together making them second in duo wins on the team this season.
Caroline went 19-9 overall this season putting her in the top-five for wins for an individual, her strongest pairing was with fellow all-conference member
Maggie Cox, but also had a strong 4-0 record when paired with teammate
Grace Reynolds.
Cameron Ring brought in a dominating 20-8 record this season with her best showings being 7-2 in the fourth flight and 8-1 in the fifth flight. Ring's best pairing this season was with fellow all-conference member
Maggie Cox where the pair went 4-2 on the season together.
Lastly for the second-team is returner
Sydney Corbett.
Corbett, who was a second-team winner last year and freshman of the year winner, is the only member of the Sailfish squad to be a repeat all-conference member for the team, and the stats will tell you why.
Corbett went 19-9 overall this season tying teammate
Zoye Caroline, Corbett has won matches in the top four flights this season, with her strongest outing being a 13-9 record in the third flight.
This year the Sailfish also found themselves back in the Freshman of the Year category as
Peyton Baro took home honors, splitting it with Ella Pringle from Florida Southern.
Baro, had a solid outing as a freshman, bringing in an 8-5 record in the individual stat sheet.
Lastly, to round out the awards, the 'Fish found themselves in the Coach of the Year category with Head Coach
Jazz Schmidt.
This is Coach Schmidt's first career Coach of the Year honors as she splits this award with Tampa's Head Coach Jeff Lamm.
The Sailfish compete in the Conference Tournament this weekend as they play as the number two seed, and will face the winner of the Saint Leo/Barry matchup on Friday at 1pm.
