BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team dropped an afternoon midweek matchup against Lynn University, falling by a score of 12–3
Lynn's game-changing sixth inning was the turning point, as they took advantage of walks and timely hits to pull away. Scout Simpson's key two-RBI single, coupled with errors and a wild pitch, fueled a six-run burst that left the 'Fish with a steep hill to climb.
Early on, the Sailfish showed promise,
Carter Parent singled, swiped second, and dashed home on a wild pitch to briefly knot the game. However, PBA struggled to keep the momentum and bring base runners home. In the eighth,
Aaron Vetter got on via a fielder's choice and scored thanks to
Brandon Castellon's RBI single, but the rally fizzled out.
On the mound,
Aidan McKee got the start for PBA, delivering 1 2/3 innings while allowing four hits and one earned run, striking out two without any walks.
Nolan Larson followed, pitching 2/3 of an inning with one run allowed on no hits, one walk, and a strikeout.
A.J. Prendergast contributed 1 2/3 innings, surrendering one hit and one earned run, with a strikeout and a walk.
Lucas Chantres faced challenges, giving up five earned runs on four hits and three walks over 1 1/3 innings.
Chip Hoornstra and
Jamie McMahon pitched 2/3 and one inning respectively, with Hoornstra allowing one run and McMahon yielding three, both issuing multiple walks.
Ethan Byrd wrapped up the pitching, tossing one inning without allowing any hits but walking three.
Carter Parent added a hit, a stolen base, and a run.
Jake McNamara chipped in with a hit, a stolen base, and two assists from shortstop.
Brandon Castellon also made an impact with a pinch-hit RBI single.
The Sailfish return to the field this Friday when they return home to for a weekend series against Nova Southeastern.
