WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team dropped the first game of their weekend series against Nova Southeastern, falling 26–5 at J.M. 'Jake' Rubin Park on Friday. Despite the loss, Palm Beach Atlantic, showed sparks of potential early on, with
Ian Pennington leading the charge as the designated hitter. Nova Southeastern's relentless attack, with 26 hits and five multi-run innings, sealed their dominant victory.
Aaron Vetter played well with three hits and a run, while
Carter Parent chipped in with a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Trey Miranda's contributions included a double and a run scored. Pennington rounded out the effort with two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
Nova Southeastern quickly set the pace with a three-run first inning, taking advantage of a passed ball and a throwing error. The Sailfish, however, found their rhythm in the third inning. Vetter ignited the rally with a single, followed by Miranda's double, setting the stage for Parent's RBI to narrow the gap. Pennington added an RBI single, and Miranda crossed the plate on a passed ball, giving the 'Fish a flicker of hope.
Strategic plays, like Parent's stolen base in the first inning, were highlights for Palm Beach Atlantic. Yet, missed opportunities, such as leaving runners on base, hampered their comeback efforts. The 'Fish's spirited efforts were evident, though Nova Southeastern's consistent scoring and capitalizing on mistakes proved too formidable for Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Sailfish return to the Jake for a doubleheader with the Sharks tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for noon.
