WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team (1-3) reeled in a 7-5 victory over Coker (0-3) at J.M. 'Jake' Rubin Park on Friday night.
PBA's bats were on fire, with two home runs and a triple fueling their 15-hit performance. This marks the third straight game the Sailfish have notched at least 15 hits and scored 7 or more runs.
The 'Fish jumped on Coker early, putting up four runs in the first inning.
Trey Miranda kicked things off with a double to deep left, moving to third on
Jake McNamara's sacrifice bunt.
Finley Holmes reached on a fielding error, allowing Miranda to cross the plate.
Ian Pennington then launched a two-run homer to right, bringing Holmes home.
Patrick Rakes kept the momentum going with a solo shot to right, giving PBA a commanding 4-0 lead after the first.
In the third, PBA padded its lead. Holmes singled, swiped second, and was driven in by
Kody Kelly's RBI single to left, pushing the score to 5-0. The Cobras managed to get on the board in the fourth with a sacrifice fly, cutting the gap to 5-1.
The 'Fish took advantage of Coker's pitching change in the seventh. Holmes singled, advanced on Pennington's single, and scored on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter
Brandon Castellon chipped in with an RBI single, scoring Pennington and stretching the lead to 7-1.
Despite a late push from Coker in the eighth, where its tallied four runs on wild pitches and an error, the 'Fish held their ground.
Jared Murray sealed the deal in the ninth with a strikeout, ensuring a 7-5 triumph for the Sailfish.
Nolan Smoot took the mound for PBA, delivering 5 solid innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run, while striking out three and walking one, earning the win to even his record at 1-1.
Lucas Chantres pitched two scoreless frames, though he issued four walks and struck out two.
Chip Hoornstra surrendered four runs (two earned) on two hits over .2 of an inning.
A.J. Prendergast tossed a clean inning, giving up just 1 hit and 1 walk, while
Jared Murray closed it out with a strikeout for the save.
Miranda led the charge with a season-high three hits, including a double, and made four assists in the field. Pennington crossed the plate twice and drove in two runs, highlighted by his home run and a stolen base. Holmes racked up three hits, scored three runs, and added a stolen base. Rakes delivered a two-hit night, including a home run, marking his third straight multi-hit game, and drove in one run.
