Baseball Drops Game to Washburn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Sailfish faced a tough matchup on Saturday at J.M. 'Jake' Rubin Park, falling 18-7 to Washburn. Despite a late four-run rally in the ninth inning, PBA couldn't overcome the Ichabods' 10-run eighth. This marked the fourth straight game the 'Fish racked up at least a dozen hits, though it wasn't enough to turn the tide.

PBA struck first in the fourth inning. Ian Pennington drew a walk and advanced to second on Patrick Rakes' walk. Kody Kelly stepped up with an RBI single, sending Pennington home and putting the Sailfish on the board with a 1-0 lead.

In the sixth, the Sailfish picked up steam again. Rakes reached on a fielding error, setting the stage for Kelly, who launched a two-run homer to deep right, nudging PBA ahead 3-1.

However, the eighth inning belonged to the Ichabods, who mounted a 10-run surge through a mix of walks, errors, and timely hits, taking an 11-3 lead.

The 'Fish made a spirited comeback attempt in the ninth. Raymond Hawkins reached on an error, and Brandon Castellon took advantage, scoring on the play. Finley Holmes and Pennington each added RBI hits, pushing across four runs for PBA, but it wasn't enough to close the gap, with Washburn sealing an 18-7 win. The rally continued their streak of scoring at least seven runs over the last four games.

Nolan Larson put in a strong start for the Sailfish, delivering 2.2 innings without allowing a hit and striking out four, despite giving up four walks. Aidan McKee showed his prowess, pitching three innings and giving up just one run on one hit, alongside three strikeouts.

Kody Kelly was a standout with a home run and three RBIs, fueling the team's offensive push. Pennington added two RBIs, both with two outs, showcasing his clutch hitting. Trey Miranda contributed with two hits and a walk, providing consistent production from the leadoff spot.

PBA is back in action on Sunday with a game against Young Harris. The game at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park starts at 12 p.m.
