WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball was ranked No. 2 in the first NCAA South Region Rankings, the organization announced this week.
 
The regional rankings determine seeding for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship with eight teams from the South Region earning bids to the national tournament. The region consists of the Sunshine State Conference, the Gulf South Conference, and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
 
PBA's No. 2 position places the Sailfish firmly in contention for one of the region's top seeds as the postseason approaches. The top-seeded team will host the South Region tournament, with the remaining seven qualifiers competing in a single-elimination format.
 
The regional rankings are based on several criteria, including in-region record, strength of schedule and results against ranked opponents. Only games against Division II competition are considered in the official evaluation process.
 
The Sailfish have put together one of the strongest résumés in the region this season, including one of the best wins in the country, taking down No. 1 Nova Southeastern. PBA sits at 23-4 overall and 15-4 in the SSC.
 
PBA locked up the No. 2-seed in the Sunshine State Conference tournament with Wednesday's win over Embry-Riddle. The Sailfish finish the regular season on Saturday at Tampa. The Sailfish host the first round of the SSC tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
