Baseball Drops Matchup with Pioneers

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team dropped their Sunday afternoon game against Cal St. East Bay by a score of 18-9. The 'Fish showed some power at the plate with two home runs in the game, but Cal St. East Bay's eight-run fifth inning broke the game wide open and PBA couldn't quite catch up.

Cal St. East Bay jumped ahead in the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits and a PBA error. The Sailfish answered back in the third when Carter Parent hustled home from first on a throwing error, trimming the lead to 5-1. In the fifth, Giancarlo Chantres crossed the plate thanks to Parent's single up the middle, pushing it to 11-2. Kody Kelly launched a homer over the right field fence in the sixth, making it 13-3 for the Sailfish.

The seventh brought a spark for PBA as Patrick Rakes hammered a three-run homer, narrowing the gap to 13-6. The Sailfish kept the pressure on in the eighth, stringing together hits for three more runs, closing in at 15-9. Despite the late push, the 'Fish couldn't close the gap, ending the game with Cal St. East Bay on top, 18-9.

Ian Pennington had a standout day with three hits and two runs in five trips to the plate. Rakes continued a great weekend at the plate and made a big impact, driving in four runs with a home run and two hits. Kelly added to the scoreboard with a home run and two RBIs, securing two hits in five at-bats. On defense, Jake McNamara showed his skills with five assists and chipped in with two hits and a run in six plate appearances.

The Sailfish return to the field on Friday evening at 7 p.m. when they host Coker at the Jake.
