WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team released their schedule for the year on Tuesday morning. Under the guidance of first-year head coach Grahm Smith, the Sailfish look to improve on a 14-15 (8-12) record from last season that ended with a loss to Nova Southeastern in the first round of the SSC Conference tournament.
"I couldn't be more excited for this upcoming season and what lies ahead for this group," said Coach Smith. "This schedule is going to challenge us early and often, but that is exactly what we want as we lay the foundation and continue to build this program."
The Sailfish open the year at the GSC-SSC South Region Conference crossover with games against strong opponents in West Florida who made the NCAA regionals last year and the host, Valdosta State. The Sailfish also head to Clayton State in the non-conference. PBA plays in two other multiple team events at Nova Southeastern and Lynn where they'll play Georgian Court, Seattle Pacific, Ave Maria and Bowie State.
"We've scheduled several competitive non-conference games to help prepare us for the tough SSC schedule starting out with the GSC-SSC South Region Conference Crossover with games against Valdosta State and West Florida who have been successful in the region the last few years," said Coach Smith. "I'm looking forward to seeing how these games will help us get better."
As the Sailfish move into conference play, they take on one of the toughest conferences in DII women's basketball. With teams such as Nova Southeastern and Embry-Riddle making deep runs in the NCAA DII tournament and Tampa making the south regional tournament, tough competition awaits.
The Sailfish host reigning conference champs Nova Southeastern on December 13th. The Sailfish also host Tampa, Rollins, Lynn, Barry and Embry-Riddle in games that highlight the home schedule.
"I couldn't be more excited for this upcoming season and what lies ahead for this group," said Coach Smith. "We have some exciting new additions to this roster, including five transfers and two freshmen, along with five returners. My staff and I can't wait to see how all these pieces come together."
