WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team dropped its series opener with the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Friday night. Multiple errors cost the Sailfish and the Eagles took the win by a score of five to one.
Dane Hall got the start on the mound for PBA and ended up taking the loss. Hall got through 5.2 innings while giving up five hits, three runs with no earned, three walks and two strikeouts on 91 pitches. Steve Trone came on in relief of him, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing three hits and two earned runs. Liam Martin closed out the game in the final two innings with two innings pitched and no runs on three hits.
Despite multiple walks and errors from the Sailfish in the early portion of the game, the Eagles did not scratch a run across until the top of the fifth when a couple of RBI singles found their way into the outfield grass to give Embry-Riddle a 2-0 lead. In the top of the sixth, the Eagles tacked on an insurance run off a passed ball. ERAU added two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-0 lead into the final innings of the game.
The Sailfish finally broke through in the bottom of the ninth when Ben Green scored on Finley Holmes third hit of the game. PBA tried to rally and had the tying run on deck but were unable to close the deficit any further.
The Sailfish and Eagles run it back on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at noon at the 'Jake' with Senior Day Festivities beginning at 11:30 a.m.
