MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team traveled to compete against the Florida Tech Panthers in a mid-week SSC showdown. The Sailfish held their own in a tough competition but just missed the mark and dropped the contest 11-7.
In the first quarter of play, the Panthers jumped ahead of the 'Fish and took a quick 3-0 lead. In the final thirty seconds of the quarter,
Curtis Goddard made his way up field and put PBA on the board, 3-1. After an uneventful start, the Sailfish were quick to attack in the second quarter. PBA opened with a goal from Keagan Southard off the assist from Goddard.
Dominic Barnshaw tied the match at 3-3 with a goal in the second minute of play.
Both teams went back-and-forth, seeing the Panthers jump ahead and the Sailfish immediately responding. In the sixth minute of play,
Cooper Porter attacked from the top of the crease to even the playing field once again. PBA took their first lead of the match in the eighth minute of play, seeing Goddard score off the assist from
Patrick Law in a man-up situation. In the final minute of the first half, Goddard took advantage of another man-up situation to give the 'Fish a 6-5 lead at the break.
The Panthers opened the third quarter by evening the score. Within the first minute, PBA was able to recapture the lead courtesy of Southard off the faceoff. The Panthers were relentlessly and netted a trio of goals to quickly surpass the 'Fish. PBA closed out the third quarter trailing by two (9-7).
In the final quarter of play, PBA was seen outshooting the Panthers nine to eight. Both teams were seen recording three saves, courtesy of their respective goalies. The Sailfish worked diligently on offense to cut the deficit, but numerous turnovers throughout the match left PBA to fall short 11-7.
Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action on Saturday, April 5 as they return to West Palm Beach, Fla. The Sailfish will host Rollins at the PBA Lacrosse Field at 1:00 p.m. (EST) for another SSC matchup.
