WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team took its series against the Barry University Buccaneers after splitting the Saturday doubleheader. The Sailfish tried to comeback in game one but was unable to complete it. PBA never trailed in the rubber match to take the series.
The Sailfish return to the field on Tuesday when they head to Florida Tech for a midweek conference game.
GAME ONE
Both offenses started off the game hot with Barry scratching across three runs in the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Matthew Faranda and Finley Holmes added RBI singles to bring the Sailfish within one. Barry scored the next five runs unanswered to take a 8-2 lead into the ninth inning. Jake McNamara and Aaron Izquierdo each added RBI singles in the bottom of the ninth to bring PBA back within three however it was too little, too late and the Sailfish fell 8-5.
The Sailfish used only two pitchers in the game. Daniel Foster ended up with the loss after throwing four full innings. Foster allowed nine hits and seven runs, five earned. He also had two walks and one strikeout in 69 total pitches. Derek Langfelder came on in relief and got through the final five innings only allowing three hits and one earned run with two walks and two strikeouts on 59 pitches.
GAME TWO
In game two, Nick Feretic set the tone on the mound for PBA. The graduate student made his longest appearance of the season so far, going six full innings. His previous longest outing was four innings three different times earlier this season. Feretic only allowed four hits and one earned run with one walk and two strikeouts. Isaac Beebe came on in relief for three full innings and the save, only allowing one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.
The pitchers kept both offenses in check until the third inning with each team scratching across a run in the frame. Trey Miranda knocked in Jake McNamara in the bottom of the third to tie the game.
In the bottom of the fourth, PBA put up a three spot on the backs of RBI hits from Jake McNamara and Trey Miranda once again. The Sailfish held onto the lead for the remainder of the game to hold on for the win and the series clincher.
