Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse team closed their Spring Break campaign with one final match and senior day festivities inside the PBA Lacrosse Field. The Sailfish hosted the Bearcats of McKendree University, defeating them 15-9 to secure the sweep of their Spring Break campaign.
PBA wasted no time by jumping out in front with their first goal from Bella Marchiano. Marchiano started at the top of the crease before working around the right side and slinging the ball into the top left of the cage. The Bearcats netted their first goal of the match, but PBA quickly shut their offensive momentum down. PBA quickly recorded their second goal after Annika Limpert assisted Olivia Larges for a 2-1 lead. The next pair of goals were drawn by fouls from the Bearcats, seeing Rachel Delate and Marchiano score on free position shots and man-up situations. The 'Fish closed the first quarter with a 4-1 lead over the Bearcats.
McKendree was relentless, netting two goals to open the second quarter and cutting the deficit to 4-3. In the ninth minute of play, delate worked around the right side of the crease before passing into Limpert who scored between the goalie's legs. With a 5-3 lead, Delate continued to do what she does best and scored her second goal of the match. Delate continued to contribute by setting up Hunter Levinson for a give-and-go. Delate passed inside the crease to Levinson to take a 7-4 advantage over the Bearcats at the half.
McKendree was persistent, chipping into the deficit even more by netting a pair of goals to open the third quarter. Looking to get back into their offensive groove, Delate was seen passing the ball to Levinson from outside the crease. Levinson attacked the cage and shot between the goalie's legs to elevate PBA 8-6. Arianna Tribble followed suit, drilling the ball into the back of the cage from behind the crease for a 9-7 lead. Limpert netted her second goal of the afternoon after using a spin move on her defender and serving the ball into the top left corner of the cage. Delate followed, shooting over the top of two defenders to give the Sailfish an 11-8 lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter of play, both teams were evenly contested to start. The 'Fish snuck in quickly, seeing Delate with a pair of goals. She zipped the ball past the goalie and was seen using a spin move on a pair of defenders to give PBA a 14-8 advantage over the Bearcats. McKendree continued to be persistent, netting their final goal of the afternoon but not before a Allie Truby finalized the game with a free position goal. The Sailfish held strong in the final minutes of play to secure the 15-9 victory over the Bearcats.
Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action next Friday, March 21 inside the PBA Lacrosse Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Sailfish will open SSC play against Embry-Riddle at 5:00 p.m. (EST).
