ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team hit the road for a mid-week contest against No. 10 Flagler College. The Sailfish were evenly contested with the Saints until a late offensive burst from the Saints saw PBA drop the contest, 15-11.
An offensively led match saw the Saints jump out in front first with the first goal. Trailing 1-0,
Dominic Barnshaw shot from the top of the crease to even the playing field at one all. The Saints were next to strike and recapture the lead, but
Bryce Downs swung by the ball across the crease to
Cooper Laughlin for the equalizer.
Caleb Southard immediately followed with the lone goal to give PBA their first lead of the match, 3-2. Both teams were evenly contested for the remainer of the first quarter, seeing the Cavaliers net another goal to end the quarter tied 3-3.
The Sailfish fired on all cylinders to open the second quarter, seeing
Curtis Goddard assist
Cooper Porter to elevate PBA to a 4-3 lead. In the fourth minute of play, Southard followed suit with the assist from
Bryce Downs to jump the 'Fish ahead 5-3. The Cavaliers cut the deficit to one, but not before
Patrick Law netted his first goal of the match to jump the Sailfish ahead 6-4. A trio of goals from the Cavaliers closed out the first half, leaving PBA to trail 7-6 at the half.
The Cavaliers netted the first goal of the third quarter to leave PBA trailing 8-6. A trio of goals started with Laughlin taking advantage of a man-up situation followed by Goddard netting the equalizer. Downs recorded the Sailfish ninth goal of the evening and recaptured the lead mid-way through the third quarter. A pair of goals from Flagler sent them ahead once again, seeing PBA trail 10-9 at the end of the third quarter.
Flagler hit their offensive peak at the start of the fourth quarter, seeing them take a 14-9 lead over the Sailfish. Determined to cut the deficit,
Keegan Southard assisted Law in another man-up situation to mark the tenth goal of the evening. Goalkeeper
Brendan Pedisich worked tirelessly to hold the Cavaliers at bay, recording eleven saves during the match. Down to the final seconds of play, Downs netted his second goal of the match to see PBA finish with eleven goals in the match. Unfortunately, it was not enough as PBA dropped the contest to top-ranked Flagler, 15-11.
Palm Beach Atlantic will remain on the road as they head to Daytona Beach, Fla. to open SSC play. The Sailfish will take on Embry-Riddle on Saturday, March 22 at 12:00 p.m. (EST).
