Sailfish Drop Conference Opener to Eagles

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -  The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team hit the road to Embry-Riddle University to open Sunshine State Conference play. In their SSC opener, the Sailfish were evenly contested with the Eagles until a late run saw PBA drop the contest, 12-7.

In the first quarter, both teams were evenly contested to open the match. In the fourth minute of play, Patrick Law opened the scoring for PBA by breaking away from two defenders and shooting from outside the top of the crease. With a 1-0 advantage, the Eagles quickly netted the equalizer to even the playing field. The 'Fish continued to take offensively, seeing Curtis Goddard miss high before the Eagles took a 2-1 lead. In the eighth minute of play, Cooper Porter used a spin move on his defender before shooting from the top of the crease to net the equalizer. With energy high, the Sailfish struck once again in the final two minutes of the first quarter. Bryce Downs attacked from behind the cage, shooting between the goalie's legs and gaining a 3-2 advantage. The Eagles were able to even the score in the final seconds, sending both teams into the second quarter with a score of 3-3.

The Eagles were aggressive from the start of the second quarter, seeing them take a 5-3 lead within the first three minutes. The 'Fish struggled to get the ball onto the offensive third of the field, but PBA goalie Brendan Pedisich made a pair of saves to keep PBA in the game. In the seventh eighth minute of play, Goddard netted the Sailfish fourth goal of the match after swinging it around the top of the crease. Trailing by one, PBA continued to work diligently on defense. A relentless Eagles team was able to net another goal and send the 'Fish into the half trailing 6-4.

The third quarter saw the Eagles net their seventh goal of the match to propel themselves ahead of the Sailfish, 7-4. Within a minute, Law netted his second goal of the match after attacking from the thirty-meter mark and scoring on his own. After cutting the deficit to two, the remainder of the third quarter became a defensive battle. PBA was seen outshooting the Eagles ten to nine, but both teams' goalies put on an impressive performance. In the third quarter alone, Pedisich was seen recording four saves to put him at seven saves on the day.

In the final quarter of play, the Eagles once again jumped ahead with a pair of goals to increase the gap to four. With PBA trailing 9-5, they worked quick to spark their offensive momentum. In the fifth minute of play, Porter netted his second goal of the match after crossing his defender and slinging the ball into the top right corner of the net. Continuing with their momentum, Dominic Bradshaw used a spin move to break away from his defender and cut the deficit to two (9-7). The Eagles were relentless, netting another four goals before time expired and leaving PBA to fall 12-7.

Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action next Saturday, March 29 as they return home to the PBA Lacrosse Field to host Florida Southern. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. (EST).
