Baseball Shuts Down Ichabods

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team returned to action on Saturday with a midday game against Washburn at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.

Coming off a comeback win against West Alabama, the 'Fish looked to make it back-to-back wins against the Ichabods (1-5). The PBA (2-4) pitching staff had its best stuff in today's game, totaling 15 strikeouts and holding Washburn to two runs in the game. PBA's offense was powered by a solo homer from Chris Amparo and timely hitting by Luis Azuaje, leading to a 4-2 win.

Dane Hall pitched a gem on the mound, starting for the Sailfish and pitching five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, one hit, and three walks. He got some run support in the bottom of the second. A single by Amparo and a pair of walks loaded the bases with one out. A wild pitch got away from the Washburn catcher, and Amparo showed off his speed to make it home to make it 1-0.

Hall had himself in a jam after walking two batters in the third but got out of it after a strikeout, and a runner got caught stealing. Trey Miranda led off the third with a triple to right-center, setting up an RBI groundout from Ben Green to double PBA's lead, 2-0. Amparo started the fourth with a bang, sending a flyball over the leftfield fence to make it 3-0.

PBA went to their bullpen, beginning in the sixth. Three straight singles and a hit batter got the Ichabods on the board, 3-2. After the rally, Steve Trone entered the game and limited the damage, getting a flyout and a lineout to end the inning. PBA got one run back in the bottom of the frame. After loading the bases with no outs, the Sailfish were at risk of coming away empty after a shallow flyout and a strikeout. The freshman, Azuaje came through with two outs to drive in Kody Kelly and make it 4-2.

A.J. Prendergast took to the mound in the middle of the seventh inning, replacing Trone after a Washburn triple. Prendergast got a punchout to end the inning and preserve the 4-2 lead. He finished the game, earning his first save of the 2025 campaign.

Both offenses finished the game with six hits each. Amparo led the 'Fish offense with two hits. Trone tosses 1.1 innings of relief, giving up no earned runs on one hit, with one strikeout. Prendergast pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and no runs with four strikeouts.

PBA concludes its weekend with a matchup against Bentley. The game at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park takes place at 12 p.m.
