Baseball Earns Seventh Straight Win

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team hosted Barry in a midweek, nonconference matchup on Tuesday night.

The Sailfish featured five pitchers, who dominated for most of the night. Daniel Foster got the win, pitching six innings, giving up one run in 5.1 innings on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts. PBA's offense was bolstered by an early two-run homerun from Chris Amparo, lifting the 'Fish to a 4-3 win.

A leadoff walk and an error in the first inning allowed the Sailfish to get on the board first, 1-0. Amparo continued the rally with a blast to leftfield to make it a 3-0 game. The Bucs got one run back in the second. A leadoff single, a hit batter, and a sac bunt put runners on second and third with one out. A well-placed single to the right side scored one run, but Foster forced a 4-6-3 double play to limit the damage and get out of the inning.

Finley Holmes doubled to start the bottom of the second. An RBI single from Ben Green drove in Holmes to restore PBA's three-run lead. Foster settled in through the middle innings. After the second inning, the left-hander set down 10 straight Barry batters with four strikeouts.

He turned the game over to Dane Hall in the sixth inning. Hall entered the game and immediately struck out two batters, the only two he faced in the game. Derek Langfelder handled the seventh inning. He gave up a double but struck out three in his one scoreless inning. A.J. Prendergast pitched a scoreless eighth with a strikeout and a double play to preserve PBA's 4-1 lead into the ninth inning.

Barry did not go away quietly. The Bucs started the ninth with a single off Isaac Beebe. Beebe responded with a lineout and a groundout to get two quick outs with one runner on second. One run scored on a single to right field to make it a 4-2 game. Barry followed with a triple to make it 4-3 with the tying run 90 feet away. After a mound visit from coach Kent Bottenfield, Beebe forced the flyout to right to end the game and earn the save in PBA's 4-3 win.

PBA begins Sunshine State Conference play on Friday at Saint Leo. The first pitch of the series is set for 6 p.m.
