Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Tampa

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team fell to the University of Tampa on Saturday afternoon after a last-minute comeback by the Spartans. PBA was defeated 64-60. 
 
Joshua Ward, Tyler Burton and Will Lee led the 'Fish with 10 points each. Ward and Burton also tied for the team-high rebounds with seven each. Graham Worland finished the game with seven points and pulled down five rebounds. Ward led PBA's offense with five assists.
 
The first five minutes of the game closely contested. With 14:54 left of the first half, the score was tied, 10-10. After the first minutes, PBA took up the intensity for the rest of the half. The Sailfish had an 11-0 run in the middle of the period that consisted of a 3-pointer by Lee and a made dunk by Jose Roberto Tanchyn. The Spartans managed to close the score to 21-20 before PBA once again extended its lead in the game. The 'Fish had a 17-5 run in the last seven minutes of the half. Two consecutive 3-pointers by Lee and one by Worland in the run gave PBA the lead at the halftime break, 38-25. 
 
The Spartans tightened the score early in the second half, showing that they had not given up. While Tampa successfully made its free throw chances, PBA struggled to find the basket. With 14:32 left of the half, the 'Fish made their first points in the half after a layup by Ward. PBA managed to keep its lead throughout the half with a compact defense and points on the fast break by Ward and Tanchyn. The 'Fish fought to keep their lead in the game but with 1:15 left they could not keep it anymore. The Spartans ended the last four minutes with an 11-4 run and PBA was defeated 64-60 after having the lead for 34 consecutive minutes of the game. 
 
The Sailfish outshot the Spartans in the game, 41 percent to 34 percent. The 'Fish had 36 points in the paint while the Spartans had 26. PBA struggled from the free throw line, making 57 percent while Tampa made 11-12 (92%). Both teams struggled to find the basket from outside the arc. The 'Fish made 25 percent of their 3-point attempts while the Spartans made 27 percent of theirs. 
 
The Sailfish men's basketball team travel to Melbourne on Wednesday for their last away game in the regular season when they face Florida Tech. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
