WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team took down the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday afternoon in their first SSC contest of the season. The 97-69 victory matches the largest margin of victory in an SSC matchup in program history. Blake Wilson led the team with a career-high 19 points.
PBA got out to an early lead and after a Trent McNair three-pointer gave the Sailfish a 16-4 lead, the Panthers took a timeout to try and quell the hot start. However, the Sailfish kept pushing. PBA stayed hot from the floor and a late dunk from Alvin Tumblin Jr. gave the Sailfish a 48-20 advantage heading into the halftime break. The Sailfish were 20-25 (74.1%) from the field in the first half, including 3-5 (60%) from beyond the arc.
The Sailfish picked up in the second half right where they left off with Preston Le Gassick hitting a three to extend the lead to 31. The Sailfish kept the lead there for a while, but later in the half, Blake Wilson made two free throws to give PBA a 34-point lead, their largest in the game so far. The Sailfish continued to hold their lead and finished the game off with the 97-69 victory.
The Sailfish shot a remarkable 70.6% from the field and 53.3% from beyond the arc. The Sailfish also converted 17-28 free throws.
The Sailfish men's basketball team returns to the floor on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez inside the Rubin Arena.
