ORLANDO, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic's men's soccer team has swept the Sunshine State Conference weekly honors.
Tin Vastic has been named the SSC Offensive Player of the Week while
Flavio Giannini has been named the SSC Defensive Player of the Week. The pair helped lead the Sailfish to 7-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in SSC play.
In the past week, PBA went head-to-head with Barry and Florida Southern. The 'Fish posted a 3-1 victory over Barry while following up with a 2-0 victory over Florida Southern.
Vastic helped lead the offensive efforts by scoring four of the five goals for PBA this week. In the match against Barry, PBA was sent into the half trailing 1-0. In the 51st minute, Vastic netted the equalizer on a penalty kick. He quickly followed with a goal in the 58th minute to secure the game winner and elevate PBA to a 2-1 lead. PBA walked away with the 3-1 victory.
Against Florida Southern, Vastic netted an early goal in the 20th minute off the assist from
Veit Klement. A red card from the Mocs sent Vastic up for a penalty kick, his second of the week, where he buried it into the net for a 2-0 PBA advantage. PBA walked away with the 2-0 victory.
Also over the past week, Giannini had a strong defensive outing for the Sailfish. He helped lead the defensive efforts by recording 12 saves on the week and helping record one shutout. Against Barry, Giannini was put to the test as he recorded 11 saves in the match to hold Barry to just one goal. In the first half, he notched six saves followed by another five saves in the second half. There were multiple moments were crucial saves helped hold Barry at bay. Against Florida Southern, Giannini recorded one save in the first 17 minutes of play.
This is the first time that Giannini has earned the award, while it marks Vastic's second honor in his PBA career and this season.
The Sailfish will host No. 22 Florida Tech at the PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field on Wednesday, October 8. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. (EST).
