Eighth Ranked 'Fish Shutout Fourteenth Ranked Panthers at Home

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Palm Beach Atlantic University, ranked No. 8, secured a 2-0 victory over Florida Institute of Technology, ranked No. 14, on Wednesday at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The home team took the lead in the first half and added another goal in the second half, while maintaining a clean sheet with their goalkeeper making two key saves. This win marked the Sailfish's second consecutive shutout. The Sailfish outshot Florida Tech 13-12 and capitalized on their scoring opportunities to clinch the win.

The first half opened with the 'Fish creating multiple scoring opportunities, highlighted by a series of corner kicks and shots early on. Despite missing some chances, the 'Fish maintained pressure, leading to a pivotal moment in the 36th minute when Juan Hermoso converted a goal with an assist from Paul Danner, giving the home team a 1-0 lead.

Defensively, the 'Fish kept Florida Tech at bay, with Flavio Giannini making a key save to preserve the advantage. The half closed with the 'Fish holding a 1-0 lead, setting a positive tone for the remainder of the match.

The second half began with the 'Fish extending their lead early, as Hermoso found the back of the net in the 46th minute, assisted by Danner. This goal increased the home team's advantage to 2-0. Florida Tech attempted several shots, with Mario Rekirsch testing the Sailfish's defense and Giannini making a crucial save in the 57th minute.

As the half progressed, the 'Fish maintained their defensive solidity, limiting Florida Tech's opportunities to close the gap. Tin Vastic had a late attempt saved by Florida Tech's Elias Ronning in the 88th minute. The match concluded without any further goals, securing a 2-0 victory for the Sailfish.

Hermoso scored two goals, including the game-winner, to lead the Sailfish's offense. Danner contributed with two assists, setting up key opportunities for the team. Giannini recorded a shutout in goal, making two saves to preserve the clean sheet. Vastic led the team in shots, tallying five attempts and testing the defense throughout the match.

PBA will remain at the PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field for another non-conference matchup against Florida Memorial on Saturday, October 11. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. (EST).
