Men's Cross Country Has Program-Best Finish at SSC Championships

LAKELAND, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic men's cross country team posted a historic day at the Sunshine State Conference Championships, finishing third overall on Saturday morning at Holloway Park. The Sailfish tallied 68 points, just eight behind runner-up Embry-Riddle and securing the program's best-ever SSC finish.

Senior Colten Lee led the way with a fourth-place finish in 24:50.5, pacing a strong PBA pack that placed four runners inside the top 15. Lee's finish is the second-best individual finish at the SSC meet in PBA men's cross country history. Hayden Tank was close behind in ninth with a personal best time of 25:09.4, followed by Charlie Roberts in 12th (25:14.4) and Aedan Lydon in 13th (25:21.6), setting a new personal record.

Lee and Tank earned a spot on the all tournament team. Lee's finish earned him first team all-SSC honors with Tank, Roberts, and Lydon earning spots on the all-SSC second team.

Alain Flores rounded out the scoring lineup in 34th place with a time of 26:12.0, helping the Sailfish hold off Tampa (84 points) for third in the 10-team field.

Also competing for PBA were Joseph Basara (43rd, 26:37.9), Hans Payne (62nd, 27:15.4), Michael Kirwan (67th, 27:35.8), Jamin Dewitt (70th, 27:55.9), Max Buonomo (77th, 28:25.2), AJ Duda (82nd, 28:39.6), and Zach Avalos (86th, 29:00.8). Basara, Payne, and Kirwin each set new personal records in the 8k.

Florida Southern captured the team title with 31 points, followed by Embry-Riddle (60) and Palm Beach Atlantic (68).

The Sailfish will return to action at the NCAA South Region Championships on Nov. 8.
