BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team fell to the Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday afternoon by a score of 101-84. The Knights red hot shooting from beyond the arc (18-40, 45%) proved to be the difference and the Sailfish were unable to recover.
Jose Roberto Tanchyn got off to a quick start in the first half. With 6 of PBA's 9 points at the under-16 media timeout, the Sailfish were up two thanks to Tanchyn's touch down low.
Unfortunately, the lead did not last long.
A 16-2 run for Lynn, capped off by a three pointer by the Knights, forced a PBA timeout with 12:25 left in the first half and PBA struggled to recover. Lynn stretched the lead out to 14 at one point during the first half after a couple of free throws at the 8:34 mark. However, PBA picked themselves up off the floor and scratched and clawed their way back into the game and only 49-35 at the half.
Lynn couldn't miss from downtown early in the second half. PBA outshot Lynn from three in the second half but they were unable to match the rate that the Knights were making them early in the half.
For every shot and stop that PBA earned, it seemed Lynn would come back down and drain a three of their own. With 8:25 left in the game, Broderick Ellis, who had a season-high 17 points, made a jumper in the paint to bring the deficit down to nine. Lynn responded with two straight three point makes and quickly restored their lead to 15. That would be the closest PBA would get for the remainder of the game.
Broderick Ellis led the way with 17 points on 5-6 shooting from the field, 2-2 from beyond the arc and 5-5 from the charity stripe. Will Lee and Jose Roberto Tanchyn were right behind him with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Tyler Burton also cracked double digits with 10 points himself.
The Sailfish men's team returns to the floor on Wednesday night when they head down I-95 once again to take on conference foe Barry at 7:30 p.m. in Miami Shores.
