WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team traveled to Barry on Wednesday night.
The Sailfish sought revenge against the Bucs, who came out on top in Rubin Arena on a buzzer-beater back in December. PBA won the battle of the boards, but it was a tough shooting night for the 'Fish. PBA went 6-for-37 from 3-point range, coming up short in the game 84-75.
Joshua Ward led the Sailfish with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Alvin Tumblin Jr. finished with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Jose Roberto Tanchyn notched a double-double of his own with 13 points and 14 boards.
Graham Worland tallied 11 points with five rebounds.
PBA started slow on offense, scoring one point in four minutes before Worland came off the bench and knocked down a pair of jumpers. The Bucs shot the ball well in the first half, allowing the hosts to take an early lead. 10 points from Ward in the period allowed the 'Fish to hang around. The Bucs shot nearly 50 percent from deep in the first period, leading 45-33 at halftime.
Coach
Cole Rose made some adjustments at halftime, relying on
Tyler Burton to run the backcourt with Ward for most of the second half. The freshman helped the 'Fish cut into the deficit, scoring a layup before knocking down a transition three to make it 57-52 with 13:38 to play. PBA's aggressive defense came back to bite them, getting into the penalty early and sending the Bucs to the free throw line 23 times in the second half. The 'Fish cut the deficit down to four several times but they failed to complete the comeback.
The Sailfish won the rebounding battle, 54-42. PBA totaled 22 offensive rebounds compared to nine for the hosts. The 'Fish scored 15 second chance points, but Barry did a better job taking advantage of PBA turnovers. The Bucs scored 15 points on 12 PBA miscues.
PBA returns home for a matchup against Rollins on Saturday. The game at Rubin Arena starts at 4 p.m.
