9/24/2024 12:13:00 PM

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's golf team hit the road and wrapped up play in its third event of the season today, this time in a match-play format at The Match at the Marsh. The Sailfish split their matches yesterday, falling to Jacksonville 4-1 and defeating Seminole State 3-2 before today falling 3-2 against Embry-Riddle.

PBA's opening match against the Dolphins began with a tight match featuring Riley Hamilton. Neither player ever led by more than one hole as they headed to 18 all square but JU won the final hole to win one up. Nina Gudgeon fell behind on the opening hole and was never able to get back to all square despite taking two holes on her back nine as she fell 3&2. Celia Schrecker fell by the same score despite leading her match early as she lost holes 9-11 which she ultimately could not recover from. The win for the 'Fish came from Marie-Luise Schrader who won eight holes overall in the match, including four in a row from holes 7-10 and got to as many as four up after hole 13 before holding on to win 2&1. Jaycee Jenkins stayed close in the match against her JU opponent but went three down after hole 14 and ended up falling 3&2 to give the Dolphins the overall 4-1 victory.

The Sailfish battled with Seminole State in the afternoon and got off to a strong start through Hamilton who dominated the opening holes going five up thru seven holes as she was on the verge of a Tiger Woods to Steven Ames type performance before ultimately wrapping the match up after hole 13, winning 6&5. Gudgeon once again was in a tight battle throughout her match trading between going one down and all square throughout the match but was never able to get over the all square hump as she dropped hole 14 and ended one down. Schrecker's second match of the day went the distance as she went from two down to two up in a six-hole stretch and held off her opponent on the final hole to finish one up. Schrader's match got off to a wild start as she dropped the first five holes before winning the next four, but she cooled off on her second nine to fall 3&2. Jenkins captured an impressive victory in her match as she jumped out to a six-hole lead and held on to win 5&4.

The 'Fish returned to play today to take on Embry-Riddle and earned the first team point through Hamilton who was in control of her match throughout, winning 5&4. Schrecker got her second win of the event in her match against the Eagles as she dominated her back-nine resulting in a 3&2 win. Embry-Riddle earned points against Schrader and Jenkins as the Sailfish each fell 3&2 in those matches leaving the determining point to Gudgeon's match. A back-and-forth match saw Gudgeon tied after the 16th hole but the Eagles won on 17 and 18 to win two up and win the overall match 3-2.

The Sailfish have a break and don't return to action again until Oct. 21 when they head back up north for the Flagler Fall Slam.
