WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's golf team wrapped up play at the Seahawk Shootout this afternoon. After two rounds yesterday, the Sailfish used a strong performance in their final 18 holes today to jump into a second-place team finish.
The 'Fish struggled in the opening round yesterday before strong second and third-round performances. PBA was led by
Nina Gudgeon and
Riley Hamilton throughout the week as they finished tied for second individually. Gudgeon, who set the school's season scoring record last year, shot rounds of 76-74 yesterday to sit ten-over par in tenth place. Hamilton, who won in her Sailfish debut was slow out of the gates with an eight-over 78 bounced back with a 73 to sit in 12th place along with teammate
Celia Schrecker who went 80-71.
Marie-Luise Schrader sat in 24th with an 80-76 while
Annika Miller shot rounds of 81-78.
Individual freshman
Jaycee Jenkins sat in the top 10 of the leaderboard with rounds of 73-75 before fading with an 83 today.
Emme Lantis also competed as an individual finishing in 28th place after following up rounds of 83-79 with a 75 today.
Sitting tied for second after day one, the Sailfish pulled away from fellow chasers as they shot a team-record 290. Gudgeon had six birdies in the final round today to tie the school record with a 68. That mark was eclipsed moments later by Hamilton who fired a clean, three birdie, 67 as the two finished tied for second. Schrecker closed with an 80 while Schrader shot a strong 75 as the pair each finished in 17th. Miller closed with an 84 to finish 34th in the 60-player field.
The Sailfish now have a win and a second-place finish in their two starts of the season as they continue to break school scoring records individually and as a team. PBA will test themselves as they take a jump up in competition next week as they compete in The Match at the Marsh on Sep. 23-24
