Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Mocs

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team concluded its series against Florida Southern on Saturday.

The Sailfish looked to bounce back after a heartbreaking loss on Friday. PBA had a chance to win both games today but lost a pair of one-run ball games. The Sailfish battled back to force extra innings in game one but came up short in 10 innings. PBA held a 5-4 lead heading into the ninth in game two, but the Mocs pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the inning and held on in the ninth to win 6-5.

The Sailfish travel to Lynn for a midweek game on Tuesday. The matchup in Boca Raton is set for 3 p.m.

Game One – FSC: 6, PBA: 5

The Mocs struck first in game one. FSC scored two runs on three hits and an error, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead. The Sailfish answered in the bottom of the inning. Nate Housen led off with a walk, followed by a single from Pedro Figueroa. Matty Warren sent a single up the middle to drive in two runs and tie the game. Warren moved to second on a sac bunt before stealing third. He scored on an FSC error. PBA scored another run on a second miscue from the Mocs, giving PBA a 4-2 lead.

FSC tied the game in the top of the fourth. Four base hits and a hit batter made it a 4-4 game. The Mocs got back in front in the top of the seventh. A single and a walk led to an RBI single to make it a 5-4 game. Matthew Faranda started the bottom of the seventh with a double down the leftfield line. He moved to third on a groundout and scored after another FSC error, tying the game at five.

The game stayed tied until the 10th. Three singles have the Mocs a 6-5 lead. PBA stranded a runner at third to keep the deficit at one, but PBA was retired in order in the bottom of the inning.
