4/23/2024 4:34:00 PM

BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf team finished sixth of 10 teams in the Sunshine State Conference tournament earlier this week. This was the final competition of the season for PBA golf.

Barry University took home the conference trophy, Nova Southeastern University took second, Saint Leo University took third, and to round out the top five, Rollins College and Lynn University tied for the fourth and fifth place spots, respectively.

Justus Verge was the most notable performer for the Sailfish in the tournament, finishing in fourth place, making it his second-best individual performance this season. Verge was consistent through all three rounds of play; after shooting a 70 in days one and two, he finished the final round with his best score at 69. This is his sixth time this season finishing in the top 10 for individuals. Cade Coffey also had a nice showing, finishing tied for 11th, which was also his second-best individual performance of the year. Coffey shot a 69 on day one and was tied for eighth place, but on day two, he shot a 76, which bumped him all the way to 26th place. He came out on day three with some fire under his belt, shooting a tournament- and season-best 67 in the third round.

Trey Tesiero landed in the top-25 as the third-best performer for the 'Fish. Tesiero tied for 22nd place but got to a tournament-best 19th place on day two. He shot a 73 in round one, a 70 in the second, and a 74 in the final round. Tesiero finished the season with five top-25 finishes, one of them being a first-place finish in the Flagler Jay Jennison Cup.

Jordan Verge and Raines Holmes found themselves tied for 33rd and 37th at the end of the tournament. Jordan had an outstanding day one, as he was tied for 12th after the first 18. Holmes got up to tied for 29th after day two, but that was the only time he broke out of the 30s in the tournament. Holmes shot a 71 in round two, which was his best, and Jordan's best was in round one, where he shot a 70.

The Sailfish wrapped up a great season with three top-five finishes alone and eight finishes in the top 10. Their best total team score was an 841 in the Flagler Jay Jennison Cup, where they took home the first-place trophy back in September. This was their final competition of the year, and we hope to see even more trophies next season.
