DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team fell to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University by a score of 7-2 on Friday afternoon. The Sailfish (13-24) got down early and couldn't find a groove all game.
Daniel Foster was the starting pitcher for PBA and the 'Fish only got one hit in the first two innings and were down 4-0 by the end of the second. Through the third and fourth inning, the Eagles managed to get another run on the board to make it 5-0.
In the top of the fifth, the 'Fish showed some life, after a double from Pedro Figueroa, which led to an RBI for Sean Williams after he grounded out to Embry-Riddle's shortstop. Through the next two innings, both teams were scoreless. But, in the bottom of the seventh, Coach Bottenfield replaced Foster midway through the inning with Andrew Sieczkowski. Foster pitched 6.1 innings, gave up nine hits, and six runs. Though he also had four errors, Foster did have three strikeouts to go with his line, and didn't give up any walks to the Eagles. Quickly after the pitching change, Embry-Riddle scored again to make it 6-1, and in the bottom of the eighth, they pushed it to a game-high 7-1 lead over PBA.
In the top of the ninth, the 'Fish scored their final run of the game. This was after Nate Housen reached first on an error by the Eagles shortstop, followed by a double from Figueroa, which led Williams to get his second RBI of the game after he reached first on an error by the pitcher. Shortly after, Embry-Riddle got Williams out on his attempt to make it to second, which was PBAs third of the inning, and ultimately concluded the game.
Foster was credited with the loss, which now makes him 3-6 on the season. Williams was the most notable performer for the Sailfish with two RBIs, but Figueroa and Matthew Faranda both managed to get two hits. One of Farandas hits was a nice double to open up the game, but unfortunately led to no scores for the 'Fish.Â
PBA will play the Eagles again in a double-header on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 1:00 & 4:00 p.m.
