DAVIE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team concluded its series against Nova Southeastern on Saturday, playing a doubleheader against the 'Fish.
The Sailfish came off a 1-0 loss to Nova Southeastern on Friday night, where no runs scored until the seventh inning. NSU clinched the series after taking game one, 12-0. The Sailfish stranded seven runners on base but struggled to string a rally together. PBA fell behind 12-3 to the Sharks in game two, but the Sailfish showed fight. The youthful lineup consisting of five freshmen showed some fight, battling back to make it a three-run game going into the ninth inning. The Sailfish scored a pair of runs and got the game-winning run to first base, but a strikeout ended the PBA comeback attempt. The Sharks came out on top, 12-11.
PBA baseball is back in action on Tuesday at Barry. The first pitch in Miami Shores, Fla. takes place at 6 p.m.
Game One – NSU: 12, PBA: 0
The Sharks started the scoring early with two runs on three hits in both the first and second innings. NSU added another run in the fourth after a walk, groundout, and an RBI single. The Sharks took a 6-0 lead after a single, stolen base, and a sac fly in the fifth. Sailfish starter
Isaac Beebe exited the game after the fifth inning. He allowed six runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The 'Fish tried to answer in the bottom of the fifth, starting the frame with a pair of base hits. A sacrifice bunt advanced both runners into scoring position. A hit batter loaded the bases, but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning.
The game got out of hand in the seventh inning. The Sharks scored six runs on six hits, including a pair of doubles and a walk to take a commanding 12-run lead. PBA had runners on second and third in the ninth but failed to avoid the shutout, dropping the game 12-0.
Jake McNamara pitched 1.2 innings after Beebe exited the game. McNamara's stats in his time on the mound included six hits, six runs, six errors, and three walks.
Nathan Espinal entered the game in the top of the seventh. Espinal managed to get a strikeout on four bats faced and did not allow any hits or runs.
Eli Scadina finished the game on the mound. He tossed the top of the ninth, allowing one hit and striking out two batters while handing a zero.
Matthew Faranda led the Sailfish offense, tallying two of PBA's four hits.
Game Two – NSU: 12, PBA: 11
Derek Langfelder started on the mound, and the Sharks came out swinging once again in the first inning, scoring two runs on three hits and a walk. The 'Fish responded in their half of the inning. A double to left field by Faranda started the inning. He advanced to third on a groundout, setting up an RBI opportunity for
Patrick Rakes, grounding out to the pitcher but scoring the run. NSU scored two more on a two-run home run to make it 4-1. PBA scored again in the bottom of the second. After a single by

Raymond Hawkins walk, and a single by Faranda,
Trey Miranda reached first on a fielder's choice and gained an RBI, but the rally stopped.
NSU tacked on four more runs to take an 8-2 lead through three and a half innings. PBA plated another run in the fourth.
Gracin Cambas singled to shortstop, and Hawkins followed with a single to center field. Miranda earned his second RBI of the day after a single that sent Cambas home, making it 8-3.
PBA starter
Derek Langfelder exited the game after 3.2 innings pitched. He allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Ryan Webster was the first pitcher out of the 'pen. He tossed 0.2 innings with one earned run off two hits and a walk.
NSU scored three runs off a three-run home run in the seventh off Sailfish freshman
Jared Murray. The 'Fish answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half. A Sharks error allowed two PBA runners to score on one play, making it a 12-5 game.
PBA continued to chip away, scoring four runs in the eighth inning. A walk from Hawkins and singles by Faranda and Miranda loaded the bases.
Patrick Rakes drove in two runs with a single up the middle to make it 12-7.
Nate Housen followed with a double down the left field line to make it a 12-9 game and give the Sailfish some life.
Pitchers
Zachary Orloff and Faranda kept the Sailfish in the game by pitching shutout innings in the eighth and ninth. PBA gave itself a chance in the ninth inning. An error allowed the leadoff batter to reach base. Kelly sent a double to deep center to score one run. A walk from Hawkins passed the baton to Faranda, who came through again with an RBI single to make it 12-11 and put runners at first and second. The Sailfish tried to bunt to move the runners to scoring position, but the Sharks executed defensively, getting the lead runner out at third. Another fielder's choice and a strikeout ended the comeback for PBA. NSU held on to win 12-11.
Faranda led the 'Fish with four hits, three runs scored, and an RBI. Miranda had three hits of his own with two runs scored and two RBIs. Kelly went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Rakes went 1-for-5 with a walk three RBIs and a run scored.
Stanton Leuthner notched a pair of RBIs in game two as well.
