'Fish Fall to the Sharks In First Matchup of the Season

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team fell to Nova Southeastern University by a score of 1-0 on Friday night. The Sailfish (5-15) have now lost three straight games.

This was the first matchup between the Sailfish and the Sharks this season, and Nova Southeastern came in 3-3 in conference play, and the 'Fish, 1-6.

The junior, Daniel Foster, started at the mound for PBA and played the first eight innings of the game. Though Foster allowed four hits and a run in his time as pitcher, he only gave up one walk and had four strikeouts. Matthew Faranda replaced Foster in the top of the eighth and had three walks but no hits or runs. Coach Bottenfield made another pitching change before the end of the eighth inning, going with the Florida native, A.J. Prendergast. Though Prendergast didn't spend much time at the mound, he had a strikeout and didn't allow any hits or runs for the Sharks.

The Sailfish did not score in the game, but they did have five hits. Ben Green was the first to get a hit when he singled to center field, allowing Trey Miranda to advance to second. Miranda also had himself a hit, and it came in the bottom of the fifth. Nate Housen, coming off a two-home run game on Wednesday, made another great play, which was a triple to left center in the bottom of the sixth.

The Sharks scored in the top of the seventh, which would be their only score of the game, and unfortunately, the 'Fish could not respond with a run of their own. Nova Southeastern took game one of the three-game series that will continue on Saturday, March 16th. The two teams will compete at 12 and 3 p.m., and the 'Fish will look to avenge the loss on Friday night.
