Sailfish Win Streak Snapped by Buccaneers

TAMPA, FLA.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team lost its first game against the No. 1-ranked Tampa on Friday. The Sailfish (4-10) lost by a score of 15-3 and will face the Spartans (15-0) in a doubleheader again on Saturday.

The Sailfish have now lost their last 11 games to Tampa, and the last time they had a victory against the Spartans was in April of 2019, where they won by a score of 7-4.

Through the first four innings, the Sailfish only had 10 at-bats and only one hit. The starting pitcher for the 'Fish was Isaac Beebe, but he was replaced in the fourth inning by the freshman from North Palm Beach, Fla., Jack Mischke. Beebe finished with eight earned runs on seven hits in three innings. This was Mischke's fourth appearance as a pitcher in his PBA career. Mishke pitched one inning, giving up three earned runs on one hits and three walks. In the bottom of the fifth, Coach Bottenfield made another pitching change, going with David Chenoweth. Chenoweth tossed three innings, surrendering four runs on four hits and three walks.

The 'Fish were finally able to get some runs on the board in the top of the sixth. That was after a Trey Miranda walk and singles by Matty Warren and Ben Green, which allowed Pedro Figueroa to gain two RBIs when he singled through the right side to send Warren and Miranda home. Following the next play, Stanton Leuthner singled to right field to earn an RBI after Figueroa got the 'Fish their third run of the evening. The score was still in Tampa's favor, 15-3, and unfortunately, it would stay that way through the end of the game.

The Spartans snapped the PBA's two-game win streak, which was their best this season, but the 'Fish will have two more opportunities to bounce back this weekend. They play Saturday on Tampa's turf at 1 and 4 p.m.
