ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's golf team opened up their spring season earlier this week at the World Golf Invitational Flagler Slam & Squire. The Sailfish finished 14th out of 17 teams.
The tournament had four Sunshine State Conference teams finish in the top five on Monday and Tuesday. Lynn University came out on top of the tournament shooting 884 in three rounds and were +20 to par as a team. Rollins College were 10 strokes short of first with a score of 894 and were +30 to par in the two days. Nova Southeastern University and Flagler College were the third and fourth place finishers but were only one stroke away from being tied at 895 and 896. To round out the top five, Saint Leo University shot an 898 in the tournament.
The Sailfish sent out six players to compete in the Slam & Squire and had a few notable performers including our top finisher,
Nina Gudgeon, who tied at 24th along with six other players. Those seven players included two SSC representatives from both Saint Leo, Rollins, and Tampa. Gudgeon shot a 76 and a 74 in the two round of day one and was 12 over par. In day two, she shot a 78 making her total for the three rounds 228. Her second round performance tied with her best finish for a round in the fall.
Another notable performer for the 'Fish was the Sophomore
Annika Miller who finished tied at 50th. The Florida native shot opposite of Gudgeon shooting a 74 in round one, and a 76 in round two. In round three, she shot an 84 and finished the tournament with a score of 234.
Emme Lantis was the third best finisher for PBA tying at 65th and shot a 238. The Freshman,
Mariane Johnson, made her PBA debut this week and tied at 68th along with
Skye Bruan, the Sophomore from Palm Beach Gardens. The two both shot a 241 along with being +25 to par.
Celia Schrecker also participated this week and shot a 249 in the tournament and managed to finish tied in 82nd place.
The Sailfish will get close to a two week break and then head out to Lakeland, Fla. to compete at Florida Southern College for the Lady Moc's Classic. The tournament will be held at the Grasslands Golf & Country Club and teams will be teeing off at 8 am.
