SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf team finished up play at the Saint Leo Invitational today. After one round yesterday and two today, the Sailfish finished tied for 11th place as a squad out of the field of 20 teams.
The Sailfish were led by
Justus Verge and
Trey Tesiero who finished in the top-10 individually each. Verge started the tournament with a one-over 73 before heating up in round two as he fired an eight-under 64. He looked poised for a top-5 finish but finished with a double bogey on his final hole to close the tournament with a 73. Tesiero got off to a solid start as he shot a one-under 71 and started play today with a 72 in round two. He closed strong in the final round with a bogey-free 67.
Raines Holmes ended as the third-best finisher for PBA as he came in 36th place. He opened with under-par rounds of 70 and 71 before closing the tournament with a 77.
Caleb Lynady went with the team, playing as an individual, and finished the event with the fourth-best PBA finish as he tied for 79th.
Alexander Ogle and
Niko Karoutsos counted as the fourth and fifth scores for the team as they finished tied for 86th and 102 respectively.
Hosts Saint Leo ran away as the team winners of the tournament as they finished 31 under par. Keiser, Barry, Nova Southeastern, and Valdosta State rounded out the top five. Keiser's Isac Wallin won the event by six strokes after shooting 17-under par.
After a strong round two, the 'Fish were comfortably in the top 10 but they shot their highest score as a team in round three as they fell seven spots to 11th. PBA shot team scores of 287,281, and 297 to finish one-over-par for the tournament.
The Sailfish return to action in early March as they play locally at the Keiser Invitational. PBA will tee it up at Okeeheelee Golf Club in Lake Worth, Fla.
