TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's track team competed in its first meet of the season on Saturday at the Tampa Spartans Open.
Despite dealing with some rainy conditions, the Sailfish had a strong showing at the meet. PBA faced off against other SSC schools, Tampa, Florida Southern, Lynn, and Nova Southeastern.
The Sailfish started the day with the 1500m race.
Emma Hanstveit led the Sailfish, finishing in 10
th place with a time of 4:58.84, good for the 10
th-fastest time in school history.
Ella Malone finished three seconds behind her in 13
th place with a time of 5:01.22.
Anna Hanstveit earned 15
th with a time of 5:04.27.
Gwendelyn Shamel placed 17
th running a 5:05.97.
Nella Peterson (5:12.97),
Caitlyn Christie (5:13.11),
Alyssa Benson (5:13.86), and
Julia Kooyer (5:53.49) also represented PBA, finishing 23
rd, 24
th, 25
th, and 40
th respectively.
The group of
Ava Spampanato,
Chloe Smith,
Faith Kulis, and
Joni Dice competed in the 4x100m relay. The team finished third with a time of 1:02.63.
Ella Malone highlighted the day for PBA, finishing third in the 800m race with a time of 2:25.90, the fifth-fastest time in school history. Benson (2:34.50) placed 14th, followed by Shamel (2:38.54) in 15
th, and
Anya Frey (2:41.33) in 16
th. Kulis also represented the 'Fish in 21
st, running 2:51.49.
Sadie Nordmeyer led the way for the 'Fish in the 3000m. She finished 11
th with a 10:44.01.
Allison Seng placed 19
th with a time of 10:57.87.
Margaret Myskowski (11:03.64) finished 22
nd while
Hannah Parker (11:06.40) earned 23
rd. Smith finished 37
th running a 11:37.87 pace.
Darah Oniwa came in 43
rd with a time of 12:27.96.
Amalia Rimes (12:45.23) and Spamanato (13:25.39) round out PBA's lineup, finishing 47
th and 48
th, respectively.
PBA track returns to Tampa on March 1 to run in the Tampa Distance Classic.
