MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team had a player receive individual accolades for the second-straight week as
Karyzma Pierre was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office this afternoon.
Pierre played a crucial role in PBA's 1-1 record this week. The Orlando native stepped up as the shorthanded Sailfish were able to win at Lynn before falling to No. 13 ranked Tampa this weekend at home. The freshman guard had three steals as the 'Fish took down Lynn 59-50. Pierre played a vital role in helping hold the Fighting Knights to shooting just 34 percent from the floor as she played 38 minutes and game in and game out she guards the opponent's best perimeter player.Â
The Sailfish had their four-game winning streak snapped by the Spartans at home on Saturday but Pierre was the best player on the floor for PBA. She had three more steals, six rebounds, and a team-high 15 points against the ranked Spartans. Pierre is third on the team in steals with 26 and has been the primary ball handler since she began starting seven games into the season.
PBA is 13-10 on the season and returns to action on Wednesday as they head to Florida Tech. The Sailfish currently sit in seventh place in the SSC standings, having a three-game lead on teams looking to get into the conference tournament. The 'Fish still have room for movement up the standings as they are just one game out of fourth place.
