Women's Basketball Earns First SSC Win, 57-53

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team overcame an early first quarter deficit to take down the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Breeje Schuler led the way for the Sailfish with 16 points.

The Panthers started the game hot and got out to a 10-0 lead early and forced a PBA timeout. Out of the timeout, the Sailfish got a bucket and the foul from Anaya Smith to get on the board. Breeje Schuler knocked down a three-point basket and Smith added another bucket as the Sailfish crawled back into the game. PBA found themselves back within four at the end of the first period.

Into the second quarter, KB Hadley and Blanche Toualeu added buckets of their own and the Sailfish tied the basketball for the first time since 0-0. The Sailfish and Panthers kept trading buckets and PBA took their first lead of the contest with just under a minute left in the half with a three-point basket from Darria Whitley. The Sailfish led 25-24 at the halftime break.

Despite carrying the momentum into halftime, the Sailfish quickly fell back down four at the start of the third quarter. Schuler went on a 5-0 run on her own to quickly retake the lead for the 'Fish. However, once again the Panthers went on their own run to retake the lead in a see-saw affair.  The Sailfish went on a 12-0 run to end the quarter and take a 7-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Sailfish added 11 more unanswered points at the beginning of the fourth quarter to take their biggest lead of the game at 51-35. The Panthers finally made a layup to end the Sailfish run. Florida Tech made the game close late in the fourth quarter. The Panthers crawled all the way back to within three points but Anabel Ellison made a free throw to get the game to a two-score game and the Sailfish held on for the 57-53 victory.

The Sailfish head on the road for a matinee matchup on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with Clayton State.
