LAKELAND, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's volleyball fell to Florida Southern on Friday evening by a score of 3-1.
PBA, still looking for their first conference win, entered the match wanting to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Mocs back in October. The Sailfish went down 2-0 through 2 sets but staved off a Mocs sweep by taking the third set. However, the Sailfish fell in the fourth set and lost the match by a score of 3-1.
Kelsey Rogers led the Sailfish with 13 kills in the match. Giulia Santuari and Harper Stokes were right behind with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Gabi Ashcraft had a match high 38 assists. Harper Stokes led the way for the Sailfish defense with 3 blocks.
"Our team commitment to adjustment and live learning was some of the best from our group this year," said Head Coach Jeff Heubner. "After the first two sets, Gabi [Ashcraft] did an incredible job of finding Harper [Stokes] and Kelsey [Rogers] in and out of system. Giulia [Santuari] was instrumental in creating success out of system and making great choices with the ball while hitting a high efficiency."
Savanna Rogers started the game at libero and had 18 digs to lead the 'Fish. Abbie Zylstra stepped into the role in the third set and played well.
"Gail [Abbie Zylstra] did a god job of moving into the libero role for us in set 3, playing great defense and communicating at a really high level," said Huebner.
Despite the loss, the Sailfish continue to fight each and every night.
"We continue to respond well to adversity," said Huebner. "Today was our best focus on attacking adjustments and siding out with efficiency"
The Sailfish Volleyball team returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on #9 University of Tampa at 4 p.m.
