MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team concluded its Thanksgiving break with a matchup against Puerto Rico Bayamon on Saturday at the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Classic.
The Sailfish had a quick turnaround after winning a tough game against North Greenville on Friday night. PBA took control early and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire against the Vaqueros. The Sailfish defeated P.R.-Bayamon 102-56 to clinch their first 7-0 start in program history.
PBA's leading scorer came off the bench.
Tyler Burton totaled 15 points with five assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
Alvin Tumblin Jr. scored 14 points and two rebounds.
Will Lee and
Graham Worland added 12 points off four 3-pointers each. Lee added five assists and three boards.
Jamaal Walker finished with 10 points.
The Sailfish were dominant from the opening tip. UPR-B shot just 32 percent in the first half and committed eight turnovers. Lee scored each of his 12 points in the first half, and PBA shot 60 percent from the field as a team, including 15 points off turnovers. The 'Fish went into the break leading 56-26.
PBA kept its foot on the gas pedal in the second half. The Vaqueros turned it over 10 more times, leading to 11 more points. UPR-B was held to 40 percent from the field. Burton scored 10 in the period, and Worland followed with nine. The lead never changed in the game, with PBA cruising to a 102-56 lead.
The Sailfish dominated the rebounding battle 45-29. The 'Fish grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, turning them into 24 second-chance points. PBA's defense held UPR-B to 36 percent shooting from the field in the game. On the offensive end, the 'Fish shot 55 percent, including 40 percent from three on 33 attempts.
PBA will be back in action on Wednesday at Rubin Arena. The Sailfish host Barry in an SSC matchup at 7:30 p.m.
