WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team concluded its weekend with a home matchup against Nova Southeastern.
The Sharks entered the match receiving votes in the AVCA top 25. PBA looked to get revenge over NSU, who took the first match earlier in the year. The Sailfish started strong offensively but failed to sustain their efficiency, dropping the match 3-0.
Giulia Santuari led PBA with six kills and four blocks.
Kelsey Rogers and
Addison Chapman recorded four kills each.
Harper Stokes totaled a team-high seven blocks in the match.
Anna Beth Stokes recorded 11 assists with five digs.
Savanna Rogers added six digs as libero.
"Giulia continues to play good volleyball for us as an attacker and blocker." PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "She has been a consistent leader for us every day in the gym and always brings a lot of intelligence to the court. Kelsey and Harper did a good job winning the blocking battle for us today, and I thought Savanna did a good job in serve receive as a leader and problem solver."
The Sailfish recorded a match-high .300 hitting percentage in the first set. The Sharks pulled away with a 9-2 run, including four aces, to take a 15-7 lead. The Sailfish answered with a 5-1 run to pick away at the NSU lead. PBA cut the deficit down to two but could not complete the comeback as the Sharks took the opening set, 25-22.
NSU took control of the match from there. H. Stokes notched four blocks in the second set, but the Sharks took the frame, 25-14. PBA's attack struggled with several unforced errors in the third set, resulting in a 25-13 win for the visitors.
The Sailfish compete on the road on Friday at Florida Southern. The match in Lakeland, Fla. is set for 7:30 p.m.
