DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team was back in action on Friday night, taking on Embry-Riddle in a Sunshine State Conference matchup.
The Sailfish sought revenge over the Eagles, who came out on top in West Palm Beach on Oct. 19. PBA had a solid showing on defense but struggled to find its rhythm offensively. Unfortunately for the 'Fish, the Eagles used the home crowd to their advantage and held off PBA, 3-0.
Kelsey Rogers led PBA's attack with six kills and five blocks.
Harper Stokes finished with six kills and two blocks. Syndey Corbett added four kills with 10 digs.
Addison Chapman recorded four kills and five digs.
Savanna Rogers led the squad with 17 digs.
Abbie Zylstra tallied nine digs with one block.
Gabi Ashcraft totaled a team-high 16 assists with nine digs and four blocks.
"Our serve receive and defensive skill work was improved tonight," PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "I was pleased with our defensive execution in right back specifically and discipline as a blocking core. Kelsey and Harper did a good job staying in front of the play and creating defensive opportunities for us that we need to convert into better offense tomorrow."
ERAU outhit the Sailfish .203 - .000 in the match. PBA totaled seven blocks as a team, just two less than the Eagles' nine. ERAU notched five aces in the match, with
Mary Jones recording the lone ace for the Sailfish.
"Offensively, I liked the way we were lower error today, especially out of system; however, we will need to keep that mentality and create better points in system moving forward," Huebner said. "Savanna put together a good match in receive for us, along with 17 digs in a string of strong defensive matches for her."
PBA has a quick turnaround, facing Rollins on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla.
