FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf team wrapped up play at the NSU Shark Invitational today. After a tournament win and a third-place finish, the Sailfish finished sixth overall after three rounds of play as a team against a field of 12 teams.
The 'Fish got off to a slow start as a team in round one shooting six over par. PBA players struggled to get anything going as they all hovered around par while Embry-Riddle ran away from the field and set the bar with a -24 team round.
Raines Holmes led the team after two rounds of play on day one as he sat in 14th place at even par with rounds of 72 and 70. Jordan and
Justus Verge each sat in 22nd place at one over par as they each shot rounds of 71 and 73. The Sailfish used
Trey Tesiero's score of 74 in round one and
Cole Gillis' score of 72 in the second round as they each sat five-over par in 43rd place after the first day of play.
The Sailfish climbed the leaderboard after strong play today as they shot the third-best score as a team. Holmes and both Verge brothers led the way shooting even-par rounds of 71 followed by a 72 in round three from Gillis. Holmes was the top finisher for 'Fish for the third-straight tournament as he finished in 16th place. Justus and Jordan finished in 21st while Gillis finished 38th. Tesiero was unable to compete in round three today as he withdrew due to injury.
Niko Karoutsos competed as an individual, shooting rounds of 73-77-79 to finish in 58th.
Embry-Riddle came away with the team victory followed by Flagler and Nova Southeastern.
The Sailfish are scheduled to play again next week as they leave the state, heading to Ohio, to compete at the Findlay Doc Spragg Invite.
