MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team concluded its weekend with a match against SSC foe Florida Tech.
The Sailfish hit the road for their third consecutive away match. PBA looked to bounce back after Friday night's loss at No. 24-ranked Nova Southeastern. Syndey Corbett led the 'Fish with 10 kills, but it wasn't enough as PBA fell to the Panthers, 3-0.
Corbett added six digs and a block to her stat line.
Savanna Rogers recorded nine kills and nine digs with four assists.
Kaileigh Ammons tallied seven kills, hitting a team-high .333.
Harper Stokes totaled six kills, hitting .273 with two blocks.
Gabi Ashcraft led the team with 25 assists and nine digs.
Jayna Bredenberg dug up 14 balls as libero.
"Kaileigh did a great job attacking for points today," PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "I thought Gabi used her effectively behind the setter, and as the game went along, Sydney started to solve her attacking range in matches. As a team, we had a good day in serve receive, led by Jayna and Savanna. We can't wait to be back in Rubin this week!"
PBA's offense was its most efficient in the first set. The team hit .242 in the set, including five kills from Ammons and four from Corbett. The Sailfish trailed the Panthers 22-18, but a 4-1 run from PBA with kills from Corbett, Ashcraft, and Ammons made it 23-22 FT. Unfortunately for the Sailfish, they fell short after a pair of Panther kills, 25-22.
The Sailfish held an early lead in the second set, with the duo of Ammons and Stokes overpowering the Panthers. Unfortunately for PBA, Florida Tech bounced back later in the set with a 6-1 run, including three Sailfish errors. The hosts held on to win the set, 25-17.
A 7-1 run with kills from Stokes and Corbett helped the 'Fish build a 13-6 lead early in the third set. Tech answered with an 8-1 run, including a pair of blocks to tie the set at 15. Both teams traded points down the stretch, but a late 5-1 run by the Panthers sealed the win, 25-22.
PBA returns home on Friday night, facing off against Tampa. The match in Rubin Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
