CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf team took home a 7th place finish at the Citrus Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. Playing in a field with 15 other teams, the Sailfish shot +35 over the three day invitational.
Despite sitting in 13th after the opening round, the Sailfish persevered and climbed to 8th after the second round. Eventually, jumping one more spot to finish seventh after the 54th hole.
Raines Holmes and
Justus Verge led the Sailfish both finishing in the top-5 individually. Holmes fired off rounds of 73, 71, and 70 to finish in 2nd place. Verge shot 72, 74, and 72 over the three rounds for a 5th place finish. With Holmes and Verge hovering around par, the rest of the team struggled to get anything going.
Jordan Verge battled to a T35 finish at +11 for the week.
Niko Karoutsos and
Cole Gillis rounded out the Sailfish five with scores of +24 and +27 over the three rounds which were good enough for 74th and 77th places respectively.
Lincoln Memorial took home the wire-to-wire victory followed by Rollins College and Cameron University.
This marks the final fall action for the men's golf team and they will return to play in February at the Matlock Collegiate Classic hosted by Florida Southern.
