BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team faced Palm Beach County rival Lynn on Saturday.
The Sailfish looked to build momentum after knocking off No. 22-ranked Barry on Friday night. Unfortunately for PBA (5-4, 1-1 SSC), the Sailfish ran into a Lynn (8-2, 2-0 SSC) team that entered the match on a six-game winning streak. The 'Fish could not get their offense going, hitting .097 as the Fighting Knights won the match 3-0.
Mary Morgan Formby led PBA with eight kills on an efficient .316 hitting percentage.
Abbie Zylstra recorded six kills and two digs with one block.
Taylor Nelson tallied five kills with seven digs.
Jayden Otto finished with 23 assists and eight digs.
Payton Ahrenstorff put up a team-high 12 digs.
After Lynn jumped out to an early lead in the first set, PBA battled back to take a 12-11 lead thanks to the combo of Formby and Zylstra. Lynn retook the lead after back-to-back blocks from its front line. Two more blocks later in the set helped the Fighting Knights pull away. The Sailfish could not work their way back into the set, falling 25-20.
Lynn jumped ahead and stayed ahead in each the second and third set. The hosts held PBA to a -.033 hitting percentage in the second set, winning it 25-16. Lynn hit. 483 in the third set, leading to a 25-12 win to clinch the set.
The Fighting Knights outhit PBA .333 - .097 in the match.
The Sailfish compete back home in Rubin Arena on Tuesday against Nova Southeastern. The match in Rubin Arena takes place at 7 p.m.
